If you have been following my journey at Shelbyville Middle School over the past few years, you know that my true passion is discipleship. When I accepted the leadership role for the SMS FCA, it came after a time of uncertainty about my future in ministry. Being a pastor is no easy task, and the emotional challenges that accompany this role can be quite overwhelming. So, I was hesitant when they first reached out to me to lead FCA at the Shelbyville Middle School.
However, God had a plan for me, even if I couldn’t see it at the time. It didn't take long for Him to reveal that I was exactly where I needed to be.
Over the past eleven years with the SMS FCA, I have witnessed hundreds of students make first-time decisions of faith. It has been a privilege to baptize more than fifty students during my three and a half years of leading this ministry. I continue to be astonished that God would choose to use me to reveal Himself to this generation—truly a miracle in itself.
I pray each day for God’s guidance on how He wants me to minister to the students, coaches, and staff at SMS. For the past eighteen months, I’ve felt a strong calling that He has something more for me to do. Over the last thirteen months, His plan has become very clear. However, I always want to ensure that these thoughts are truly from Him and not my own. That’s why I have been placing a fleece of wool on the threshing floor, seeking confirmation of God’s will for my life. I have been finding dew on that sheepskin.
In faith, I’m thrilled to share that we will be launching a new FCA Huddle at Triton Central Middle School this Fall. As I have discussed with the teachers, counselors, and principals about what God has placed on my heart for TCMS, it’s clear that God’s hand is guiding this decision as well. So, where does the 'in faith' aspect come into play? Currently, I dedicate over 15 hours a week to SMS, and FCA is not a paid role for me. I also hold three other jobs to support myself and my family. I am committed to being intentional in discipleship, so I will not take on a new ministry unless I can fully invest my time and energy. To establish this new outreach, I need to adjust my schedule. Therefore, I have decided to return to the mission field and raise support to create the necessary time to minister to more than 1,300 students at the TCMS and SMS campuses.
This is where you come in. While we are not yet ready to receive funds, we would like to gauge the level of support we might receive for this mission. Below is a link to a questionnaire we are asking for your input. Would you be willing to take five minutes to fill it out? We are particularly interested in understanding what level of investment you feel led to contribute.
I invite you to complete a questionnaire to gauge potential support for this new initiative.
